Oxford (2007) - The Great Oxford Game of the English Language

Oxford (2007) - The Great Oxford Game of the English Language

Think you're good with words? This clever and challenging board game takes you on a journey through spelling, meanings, and tricky vocabulary – all under the watchful eye of the Oxford Dictionary. It’s a brainy battle where the aim is to collect three mini dictionaries by answering questions correctly and racing to the finish. With questions split into easy, difficult and really difficult, there’s always a way forward – but it won’t be without a few laughs (and stumbles) along the way.

Perfect for players who love a wordy challenge, and ideal for teams too. Whether you're playing to learn or just to win, this one’s a real test of language skills.

How to Play

Start in the centre of the spiral board and try to make your way to the outer edge. You’ll be asked either a spelling or a vocabulary question each turn – the harder the question, the faster you move if you get it right. You can choose the level of difficulty you want to answer, but riskier questions mean quicker rewards.

Pick a card, choose your colour, and try to spell out a tricky word or guess the correct meaning from a choice of three. The more dictionaries you collect by answering correctly, the further you can go. But move too fast without thinking, and you might be sent back or miss out on a dictionary.

The first player to collect three dictionaries and make it to the finish wins the game. You don’t need to land on the finish square exactly – if your answer gets you past it, you win!
