Mad Gab (2001) – It's Not What You Say, It's What You Hear!

Mad Gab is one of those games that gets funnier the more you play. It’s all about hearing phrases hidden in nonsense – like “Yore Luke Ink Hood” actually being “You're Looking Good!” It’s fast, funny, and full of those “aha!” moments that have everyone shouting and laughing at the same time. Perfect for groups, families, or parties, this game is a proper giggle-fest.

The aim of the game is to be the first team to reach the finish by correctly solving the most Mad Gab phrases. Each turn, one team member (the READER) reads out phrases from the cards while the rest of their team tries to guess what’s really being said before the timer runs out. And to keep things interesting, there are wild cards like “Double Score,” “Miss a Turn,” and “To Everyone” that shake up the pace and keep everyone on their toes.

Mad Gab is one of those games that seems easy until you’re the one doing the guessing – then suddenly everything sounds like complete gibberish. It’s brilliant, chaotic fun.

How to Play

Divide into two teams and take turns with one person acting as the READER. They read out three Mad Gab cards (without peeking at the answers). The rest of the team has to guess what the phrase really is before the sand timer runs out.

If they get one right, the READER moves on to the next card. If not, they keep repeating it while the team shouts guesses. If the team gets stuck, the opposing team’s STEALER can shout out the answers for bonus points. The number of correct guesses moves your team’s pawn forward on the board. First to the finish wins!

There are also extra twists like Double Time, Double Score, and All Play rounds to keep it exciting. The fun is all in how much nonsense you can make sense of under pressure.

Why Rent This Game

If you love games that make you laugh, think, and shout all at once, Mad Gab is a brilliant pick. It’s one of those games that works with any group – from family get-togethers to mates’ night in. There’s barely any setup, it’s easy to learn, and every round is packed with those “I can’t believe I didn’t hear that!” moments.
