Last Word (1986) – A Clever Word Game of Strategy, Skill, and Outwitting Your Opponents

Last Word (1986) is a clever little word game that’ll really get you thinking! It’s all about making words, trapping your opponents, and trying to have the very last word before the board fills up. It’s the kind of game that sounds simple when you first start, but quickly turns into a brilliant battle of brains and strategy. Whether you’re great with words or just love a good challenge, Last Word is a real hidden gem for game night.

How to Play

Each player picks a coloured pawn and takes their place around the board. The tiles with letters on them are placed randomly across the grid. The aim is to create words by moving your pawn over the letter tiles – picking them up as you go along. You can move in any direction, even wrapping around the board edges if you need to! Wild squares can be used as any letter too, giving you a bit of flexibility.

The twist is that once you start your word, you’ve got to follow the right letter sequence – and once you use a tile, you take it off the board. You’ll score points for every letter you collect, extra points for isolating your opponents, and a bonus for making the very last word when the board’s nearly empty.
