Interaction (1978) – The Devious Strategy Game by Waddingtons

Interaction, released in 1978 by Waddingtons, is a devious little strategy game built for 1–2 players. At first glance it looks simple, but once the cue balls start moving, things get tricky fast. The goal is straightforward – be the first to pocket five yellow neutral balls – but achieving it requires a clever mix of planning, rebounds, and knock-on momentum. Every move can set off a chain reaction across the board, and a single shot can turn the whole game around.

How to Play

Each player controls two cue balls, either red or blue, while ten yellow balls sit neutrally on the board. On your turn, you strike a cue ball into play, setting other balls in motion. The movement is based on two principles – “Knock-On,” where momentum passes through a line of balls, and “Rebound,” where balls bounce off walls at the same angle they hit. The challenge is to calculate each strike, making sure you set up the perfect shot to pocket a yellow ball in the central row of pockets. The first player to pocket five yellow balls wins. For solo players, a puzzle-style version allows you to test your skills by pocketing all yellow balls in the fewest possible moves.
