Focus (1980) – A Clever Strategy Game of Stacks and Steals
Focus is a sharp and absorbing game that challenges your thinking from the very first move. Originally released in 1980, this tactical gem is all about stacking pieces, capturing opponents, and keeping control of the board. Each move shifts the balance, and with every stack you build, the pressure builds too. It’s simple to learn but rewards clever thinking, forward planning, and the ability to spot opportunities before anyone else does.
Whether you're playing one-on-one or as a team in the four-player version, Focus is a brilliant game that keeps you engaged right to the final move.
How to Play
Each player starts with their coloured pieces arranged on the board. On your turn, you move a stack the number of spaces equal to its height. If you move onto a stack, the colours merge, but only the colour on top controls it. If a stack grows beyond five, the bottom pieces are removed—your own pieces go into your reserve, ready to return to the board later, and any opponent's pieces are captured and removed from the game.
The aim is to keep control. You can bring your reserves back into play to turn the tide or protect your stacks. The last player who still has a move to make wins the game.
