Devil’s Triangle (1987) – A Vintage Strategy Game of Bluff and Capture
This clever little two-player game from the Think Series is a real brain teaser. The aim sounds simple: be the first to capture three of your opponent's triangles. But here’s the twist – one of those triangles is their Devil’s Triangle. If you capture that one by mistake, you lose instantly! It’s a battle of bluffing, logic and memory where you’re never quite sure which triangle you’re chasing. Great for anyone who loves quiet strategy games without all the noise.
How to Play
Each player has nine triangles, secretly numbered underneath from 1 to 9. You each choose one as your Devil’s Triangle – the one you must protect. The game starts with everyone placing their triangles face down on the board, trying to keep their key piece hidden. Once all the triangles are on the board, the real game begins. Each turn, you move one of your triangles, trying to surround and capture your opponent’s – but it takes 3 triangles to fully trap one (or less in the corners!). Captured pieces are checked – if it’s the Devil’s Triangle, it’s game over. If not, you keep going. The first player to safely capture three opponent triangles without triggering disaster, wins.
Why Rent
This one’s a proper under-the-radar classic. It’s a bit like a tactical puzzle that changes every time you play, with no two rounds feeling the same. There’s no timer, no dice – just quiet thinking and sneaky tactics. It’s brilliant for couples, siblings, or anyone who likes a game that makes you think. Perfect for rainy evenings or lazy Sundays when you want something that gives your brain a bit of a workout without feeling like hard work. And it’s vintage too, so if you’re into old-school games with simple rules but loads of depth, Devil’s Triangle is a brilliant pick.
