Cats’ Mansion (1984) – A Clever Cat Game of Strategy and Secret Roles
A board game for intelligent creatures – or at least for those who enjoy a bit of feline trickery. In Cats’ Mansion, you're not just playing a game, you're becoming a cat. But not just any cat. Will you be the Greedy Cat who’s always after the food bowl? Or the Angry Cat who’s always hunting mice? Maybe you're the Lazy Cat snuggled on a pillow, or the Curious Cat sneaking after unopened parcels. And let’s not forget the stray – the Fifth Cat who’s just trying not to get thrown out. Set in a grand country mansion, this game is full of clever bluffing, mystery, and playful deception.
How to Play
Each player takes on the secret role of a cat, each with a different personality and private objective to complete. You'll move around the mansion trying to reach your goal without revealing who you are. Along the way, you can meow, purr, hiss or pretend to be someone else entirely – all using a special set of cards. Watch other players closely, because guessing their identity can give you the edge – but guess wrong and it might cost you. The game ends when someone completes their objective and returns to their favourite spot. Simple to learn but surprisingly tactical, this one’s perfect for players aged 10+ and plays best with 2–4 people.
Why Rent
This is a bit of a hidden gem. Cats’ Mansion is one of those games that quietly impresses – especially if you love games with secret identities, a bit of bluffing, and a good storyline behind it. It’s playful and clever without being too serious. Plus, the whole cat theme is just brilliant. If you’ve got a family game night or want something a bit different for your group, this one’s well worth a go.
