Battleships (1999) – Classic Naval Strategy Game for 2 Players

A true test of strategy, logic, and nerve – Battleships (1999) is the classic two-player game where your mission is simple: sink your opponent’s fleet before they sink yours. With compact plastic consoles, red and white pegs, and a set of plastic ships to place and protect, this version brings back that old-school thrill of silent plotting and sudden hits. A hit means you’re on their trail. A miss? Back to scanning the sea. With every turn, the tension builds as you try to guess their next move before they guess yours.

How to Play

Each player secretly places five ships across their ocean grid, choosing where to hide their aircraft carrier, battleship, cruiser, submarine and destroyer. Then it’s time to call out co-ordinates and hope for a hit. Mark your guesses on your radar and listen carefully – because once you get a hit, the real hunt begins. You’ll need to score the right number of hits to sink each ship completely, and keep track of what’s still afloat. For an extra challenge, try the Salvo version – where you can fire multiple shots per turn depending on how many ships you’ve got left. The first to sink all five enemy ships wins.

Why Rent

Battleships is perfect for those head-to-head game nights where you want something classic, portable, and easy to set up. Whether you’re reliving childhood memories or introducing it to someone for the first time, it’s a brilliant mix of patience and mind games. No batteries, no fuss – just a compact little war of wits. Ideal for a weekend challenge or to keep older kids engaged without screens.
